Mercy – Beaten until she bled
Mercy was one of the most horrific abuse cases that we had ever come across. To witness cruelty is soul-destroying but we were truly shaken to the core. Mercy was found lying having had been beaten senseless by two men who had then left her to die. Bleeding profusely from the mouth, whimpering in pain she was unable to move.
Her prognosis was poor, her vitals low, one eye severely damaged, bleeding from the nose and multiple wounds on her poor broken body. We did not think that she would survive but she was not ready to give up the fight to live and Mercy made it through the night. So traumatised that she refused to eat, it was only after the vet sat with her, stroking and talking to her that she proceeded to nibble a morsel or two.
Once stronger Mercy had to undergo amputation surgery as her leg was not only fractured beyond repair but was riddled with bullets – meaning she had been shot sometime in the past as well. Mercy slowly healed but there was never any smile on her beautiful face, so it was decided that Mercy would travel to the UK to find a home, where she could mentally heal. Today Mercy resides in the best home possible, having overcome the odds to survive. We are truly in awe of this courageous girl, who has learned to live again.
